  • Added  - An option to extract the current folders filenames directly into the FmEdit text editor, there are options to include full path, full filename or filename without extension, this is under the "Tool's" menu

  • Bug Fix - Delete, copy, cut, paste keyboard shortcuts did not work for *.mp3, *.wma  (and other) files on Windows XP, this was due to a  MSDN documentation error, combined with XP's multimedia shell extension clearing.

  • Added  - An option which will remove read-only attributes from a folder and all it's sub-folders, a folder must be highlighted and then the option selected from the "Tools Menu". Note: This will only work with folders selected in the file window.

  • Changed - The Mp3 tag editor, the tag editor now supports all 1.x and 2.x tag versions.

  • Code Modification  - Windows Xp treats zip files as folders and would not open the files in the FmEdit zip manager, this has now been modified to ensure the zip file will be displayed in the FmEdit viewer upon single clicking a zip file.

  • Added - A viewer for Microsoft Excel files which can read XLS 2.1, 3.0, 4.0 worksheet files and XLS 5.0, 95, 97/2000 workbook files, access all sheets in a workbooks, receive all text, numbers, etc. you can write in a cell, read cell formatting information (font, cell color, border, etc.). Note: Protected workbooks cannot be viewed.
  • Added - FmEdit will now automatically create a Hex configuration file after using the Hex editor. Note: If you have already created your own "cfg" file, rename it to FmEditHex.cfg ensuring the file is in the same folder as FmEdit.
  • Changed - If your PC is not connected to a network, the Map and Unmapped network toolbar buttons will no longer be displayed.
  • Changed -  The way an html file is detected, the file extension is no longer used for this, all html files should now display in the viewer regardless of the files extension.

Version 4.0 - Major Release

  • A new graphics package has been built in with more image types supported, multiple image editing function's are now available, see "New Image Viewer"

  • Images can be scanned directly into the viewer and easily manipulated with the many editing options available.
  • The image viewer open dialog box has a preview screen which allows you to view the image as a thumbnail without actually opening it.
  • By single clicking on a folder in the file window, the disk space used in the folder (including sub-folder's) will be displayed on the status bar, this can be switched off from the options menu, the option is automatically switched off when browsing a network drive.

Note: As there is also an option for single clicking on a folder to open it, whichever one you select, the other option will be disabled.

  • A new and improved Mp3 tag editor has been added to the main interface, there is also an option which allows you to browse only for mp3 files.
  • A revamped zip manager with an Explorer type interface, including check boxes next to each file for easier selection, a new column has been added which stores the file extension, this makes it easier to group specific file types for extraction.
  • The text editor has also had a revamp with some toolbar buttons added for frequently used options, only ASCII files will be displayed in the editor.
  • An auto-indent option has been added to the text editor.
  • A font combo box has been added to the text and rtf editor's, this can also be used as a font viewer.
  • The Rtf viewer/editor has been enhanced to support embedded objects and images.
  • FmEdit can be opened up in the icon tray (user's choice).
  • A viewer that will display all system icon's has been added, selected icon's can be saved to a bitmap file of your choice.
  • A new "About Box" has been added.
  • A very cool "Credits" option has been added for all the Delphi component author's who have contributed to FmEdit.
  • A year calendar has been added to the tool's menu.
  • Faster file manipulation plus FmEdit will open much quicker than previous version's.
  • The FmEdit window size and screen position setting can now be saved providing "Start FmEdit Maximized" is unchecked, selecting "Start FmEdit Maximized" again will clear the previous window size and screen position settings.
  • The Html viewer/editor remains the same.
  • Multi-Media files can now be played by right clicking on the file and selecting "Play".

New Image Viewer

  • Images can no longer be opened in their own window, all editing and saving is now done within the main image viewer.
  • Formats supported are: emf wmf ico bmp afi rst tga png dcx pcc pcx jpeg jpg tiff tif and animated gif files.
  • In addition, any open image can be converted to the supported formats without the loss of any quality.
  • There is also an option which allows you to browse for all supported image files.
  • When an image is first opened, it will be set at "Fit To Page" if it is too large for the viewing area, actual size can easily be selected from the menu.
  • Images can be scanned directly into the viewer and easily manipulated with the many editing options now available.

  • Clear - removes image from viewer without prompting you to save any changes that may have been made
  • Rotate - 90 deg, 180 deg, 270 deg & Arbitrary
  • Flip - Horizontal / Vertical
  • Negative - display a negative of the image
  • Crop to selection - area must be selected first
  • Sharpen
  • Smooth
  • Brightness - Increase / Decrease
  • Contrast - Increase / Decrease
  • Edge detection - trace contour

  • Drag - allows you to move the image when the "Actual Size" is selected and the image is too large for the viewer
  • Select - used for selecting a portion of the image for copying or cropping, start at the uppermost left hand side, then move the mouse down and across to get the required selection, once selected, either "Copy" or select the "Crop to Selection" option from the "Image" menu

... Plus lot's and lot's of behind the scene change's, in fact, over 5,000 lines of code has been re-written to make FmEdit as fast as possible ...


The following utilities have been dropped from this version:
  • Office97 Viewer, Ftp Client, Internal Multi-Media Player and the Font Viewer.
