A question I have been asked many time's, it means -
"File Manager Editor", well, it did start off as that, a small
program I wrote for myself (the birth) to browse for
large text files and easily open them
for viewing or editing,
It has now evolved into a powerful Windows file
manager
FmEdit is the ideal replacement for Windows Explorer, FmEdit can run under: Win9x, ME, NT, Windows 2000 and Xp. It enables you to perform common file operations such as copy, move, rename and delete files, create folders, files and shortcuts, run programs, and just about everything else you've come to expect from Explorer, you can even get the size of a folder (including sub-folders) by single clicking on a folder in the file window. At a touch of a button, you can double the power, turning FmEdit into a dual-Explorer interface, context menus and drag-and-drop are fully supported. When not running in dual mode, the right-hand pane exposes several powerful utilities that the program automatically employs as file viewers. These include A viewer for Microsoft Excel files which can read XLS 2.1, 3.0, 4.0 worksheet files and XLS 5.0, 95, 97/2000 workbook files, access all sheets in a workbooks, receive all text, numbers, etc. that are written in a cell, read cell formatting information (font, cell colour, border, etc.; A large file text editor; an html viewer/editor; an image viewer that supports most popular image formats (even animated .gif files), you can even scan an image directly into the viewer which has a host of editing options; a full-featured zip utility that supports spanned zip files, password protection, self-extracting zip files, you can view any supported file in any of the viewers without having to first extract the file, files can even be renamed within the archive. Context menus are available to access the powerful features of each utility. Other features include a powerful hex editor which allows you to open any file type, an rtf editor with support for embedded object's, an mp3 tag editor, a monthly and yearly calendar, an advanced calculator (you can even use your own, see the help file on how) + much much more. |

| The Birth - (FmEdit95 was Born September 1997) |
|
Written and Programmed by Raymond Allan, using Borland Delphi FmEdit2001 as it is now called, evolved around a project I was doing at work, I needed a flexible editor to manipulate large label files, I eventually found the Delphi components required in the form of LEdit32 , this in turn allowed me to achieve my requirements. I then got thinking about various Editor's, File Managers, Image Viewer's, Html Viewers/Editors and Zip Utility Programs I had been using, since I found the components for the Editor, I started searching the various Delphi sites looking for components I could use to build one complete program in which I had total control over, the net result is FmEdit, so instead of having to use 5 or 6 programs I now only use FmEdit. It may not be as classy or as functional as some other programs, but FmEdit is a very robust program and does the job required, I do not intend to stop working on FmEdit, and will be constantly looking to add new functionality. FmEdit was freeware until December of 1998. |
