Troubleshooting and Known Problems

While all effort has gone into trying to make FmEdit bug and problem free, it is not always possible to achieve, this is due to the different configurations of PC's, and the different versions of Win9x and NT.

FmEdit also incorporates third party components which are built into the program, I have no control over the source code of these components, if an error occurs that involves a third party component, I have to wait on the authors sending me a fix, this is not always easy as FmEdit will have ran OK on my system and the systems of my beta testers before being released, which means it can be hard to replicate a users problem.

if I know about any errors that are not serious, they will be placed in the "Known Problems" section awaiting a future fix.

I can honestly say that 99% of FmEdit users are very happy with the software, this is based on registered users, read some of their comments.

If you are one of the 1% that continues to have problems, I can only apologies and hope that a fix can be put in place.

Troubleshooting:
Unexplained Access Violation errors relating to ComCtl32.dll  (All FmEdit versions)

If you have a version of ComCtl32.dll on your system that will not allow FmEdit to be opened, or are receiving errors during file handling, you can download the upgrade package from Microsoft's FTP site, FmEdit requires at least version 4.72 or greater for all functions to work correctly.

Note: on the above page, there are links to multiple ComCtl32 files, move the mouse over the hyperlinks that have X86 and look for text that has "platforms .. Win9X NT" or something similar relating to your OS, this is not guaranteed to solve the problems as you may have the most recent ComCtl32.dll on your system, the problem may be related to some other software that is running and has caused a conflict.

Known Problems:
File Management
When manipulating files on a Novelle network drive, the file and tree windows do not automatically refresh after file manipulation, press F5 to refresh.
Html Viewer

Any file or folder that has the hash (# ) character in the filename, will not open in the html viewer, you will receive a "Can't locate file: c:\mydir\myfile#1.htm". (A temporary workaround is to rename the files or folders with the # character. Disable Viewers from the options menu before you rename them or you will generate the same error.)
